Louis T. LaPorta
Doctor of Psychology
Lou joined Jari as a fulltime Doctor of Psychology in 2006. Previously Dr. LaPorta worked as a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice and in civil service institutions. As an educator, Lou's experience ranges from Kindergarten to the college post-graduate level. He has worked or trained at every level of government, including municipal, county, state, and federal programs.
As the Director of Training and Continuing Education for the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioner's Department of Public Safety, Lou developed two significant programs. They include a continuing education program approved by the State of Florida to grant continuing education credits to licensed psychologists, mental health counselors, family therapists, and social workers. Secondly, Dr. LaPorta created a nationally recognized internship for doctoral psychology interns.
Lou earned one of his two undergraduate degrees at Rutgers University in the Biological Sciences, with a major specialization in Neurobiology and Behavior, and a minor specialization in Environmental Science. He earned his second undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Central Florida, after which he went on to graduate with Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Lou has specialized training and experience working with Sexual Abuse Survivors, Sexual Offenders, and in the field of Behavioral Medicine. He has undergone advanced training at New Mexico State University en route to a post-doctoral Masters degree in Psychopharmacology. Dr. LaPorta completed his APA Accredited Doctoral Psychology internship at Florida State Hospital, and his Post-doctoral Residency at the Palm Beach County School District/45th Street Mental Health Center consortium. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, and APA's Division 55, and designated as a Qualified Supervisor in the State of Florida to supervise mental health practitioners seeking licensure.
Dr. Lou brings great benefit to Jari with his patient experience, as well as a grounded environment for the multitude of endeavors of Jari.
